A Little Comment Can Go A Long Way

The other night I was having dinner with one of my closest friends and she confessed to me that for months after meeting me she had no idea about my leg. Because I walk with a limb she just thought I had ‘a manky leg’ (not the nicest choice of words but I don’t think she meant it to sound as offensive as it did) and it wasn’t until another friend had casually mentioned about my lack of limb that she realized.

“But I never asked you about it because I didn’t see it as a big deal,” she said in between mouthfuls of sushi.

“I just see you as Miranda who wears colourful outfits and loves lollies.”

I don’t think she would have realised it at the time but it was just about the nicest thing she could have said.
